Will you compare me to a summers day?
I am unlovely and intemperate;
I am mere flesh, though belike I may
Save some taste of beauty for us pawns of fate.
Have you so swelled with your own conceit,
And are so sick with surfeit of sweet words,
Kill yourself with wasted kindness, and defeat
Every strength that your manly youth affords?
Songs of love are not Neptunes breath of health;
Poetry is not the bodys meat and drink
Even poets must pursue some earthly wealth,
And not lose all to love and words and ink.
